Nalgonda: Anti-corruption Bureau sleuths on Thursday netted Regional Vigilance and Enforcement Officer of Nalgonda V Bhaskar Rao while accepting Rs 1 lakh bribe from Nalgonda town Rice Millers Association president Rekala Badradri.
Based on the complaint of Badradri, owner of Sai Venkateshwara Rice Mill, the ACB sleuths sketched a plan to trap Rao in their drag net. On Thursday, as per their plan, the officials from Hyderabad conducted simultaneous raids on the rented house of Rao and his office.
According to Badradri, Rao demanded Rs 1 lakh bribe from the Rice Millers Association threatening that raids would be conducted on 13 rice mills in Nalgonda town and cases would be filed if they failed to pay the said money.
Vexed with the attitude of the officer, Badradri approached the ACB officials on January 8. To get a confirmation on the version of complainant, the ACB officials gave him a spy camera spectacle and voice recorder and sent him to the Vigilance Officer.
Bhasker Rao demanding bribe was recorded when the complainant met him on January 9 in his office. After examining the hidden camera footages, the ACB officials came to a conclusion and decided to trap the officer.
On Thursday, the ACB officials sent Badradri with Rs 1 lakh of marked currency notes to the residence of Rao located at VT Colony. The sleuths caught Rao red-handedly when he was accepting money from Badradri. The ACB officials simultaneously conducted searches at his office in the town and examined the relevant documents.
Badradri said that the Vigilance and Enforcement Deputy Superintendant has called him on January 5 and asked him to meet Regional Vigilance and Enforcement Officer.
When he met Bhasker Rao on January 6, the officials has demanded to pay Rs 1 lakh bribe in the name of raids, he alleged. Vexed with officer’s attitude, he on behalf of town Rice Millers Association approached the ACB, he added.
Meanwhile, ASP of ACB Malla Reddy along with DSP D Sunitha and CI Majid Khan informed that Bhaskar Rao has been arrested and cases would be filed against him as per the law.
