Hyderabad: Cyberabad police arrested four Nigerians in regard to the 3.5 kg gold theft case committed by an international gang in Kukatpally on April 16. The police said the search is on for five other accused, three Peruvians and two African nationals in connection with the case.

The arrested have been identified as Olasoju Richard Olajide, Efeture Richard Ono, Ozigagu Paul Friday and Adenusi Adewale Elijah. Police recovered one Toyota Camry car, some gold ornaments, pins used to deflate car tyres, mobile phones, laptop and passports from the accused.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner Sandeep Shandilya said the gang managed to deflate the car tyre of businessman Abhishek Agarwal on April 16 and decamped with a bag containing 3.5 kg gold jewellery when he was busy replacing the tyre.

According to the police, Agarwal, who runs a jewellery franchise, was on his way to Basheerbagh after handing over some jewellery at the gold shops in KPHB and Chandanagar. On the way, he stopped at his relatives shop in Kukatpally for a few minutes when the gang managed to place the pin under the tyre of Agarwal’s car.

As the car moved, the left rear tyre was deflated and one of the gang members alerted Agarwal about it. He got down the car and was replacing the tyre with the help of his assistant when a woman member of the gang picked up the bag from the driver’s side and fled in the Toyota car, the police officer said.

The investigating teams analysed CCTV footages and tracked down the first owner to the last buyer of the Toyota car used by the robbers. After sustained efforts four Nigerian members of the gang were arrested from Bengaluru while efforts are underway to arrest other accused, Shandilya said.
