Mahabubabad: District Collector Preethi Meena said that rehabilitation would be provided to the persons, who stop manufacturing of gudumba or illicit liquor. She chaired a review meeting with members of Gudumba rehabilitation Committee at her chamber in the Collectorate in Mahabubabad on Wednesday.

Speaking at the meeting, the Collector said that rehabilitation has been provided to as many as 455 people by investing Rs 9.10 crores, who totally stopped manufacturing and selling of gudumba in the district. Out of these 455, 149 persons belong to SC, 141 are STs, 153 are BCs and 12 are minorities.

Rehabilitation is provided to the persons, on whom bindover cases were lodged and those, who are single (especially women) along with sanctioning of Rs 2 lakh with 100 per cent subsidy after the special officers conduct inspection, the Collector explained.

Instead of giving cash to the beneficiaries, necessary materials will be supplied for running a self-employed unit under the supervision of special officers to encourage them to grow financially, added the Collector.

District Excise Superintendent Sheshu Rao, DSP Raja Mahendra Naik, BC Welfare Officer Someshwar Rao, SC Welfare Officer Raja, ST Welfare Officer Narayana Swamy and Minority Welfare Officer Srinivasa Chary were present along with Excise CI Chandrashekar.
