Group-II aspirants grab Jio’s 4 G offer
It’s no exaggeration to say that Reliance Jio 4G ‘Welcome Offer’ that triggered a data war between telecom companies has indeed turned out to be a bolt from the blue for thousands of candidates preparing for the Group - II exams in Telangana.
For the Group – II aspirants who can’t really afford the luxury of accessing the online classes owing to high data tariffs, the free unlimited data service offered by the telecom giant has come like a bonanza. It may be noted here that the Jio is offering unlimited 4G data free of cost to its customers up to December-end as part of its promotional run.
In the wake of Telangana government’s Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Space Research Organisation to provide Group - II coaching through Mana TV (SoFTNET) for over four hours a day from October 1, the online classes gained a lot of prominence. All the classes telecasted through the channel have also been made available online through Youtube and other social networking sites.
As per standard definition, video streaming uses about 1 GB of data per hour and even at lower resolution each file consumes at least 0.300 GB per hour. At an average tariff of Rs 228 per one GB of data, one needs to spend a whopping amount to access or download the online classes that have streaming span of 50 minutes to almost 2 hours.
There are more than 7,000 vidoes classes available on the Youtube uploaded by the SoFTNET and others such as Groups Adda, World Slate and Kautilya Careers. This apart, almost all the top vernacular newspapers – Eenadu, Sakshi, Namaste Telangana and Andhra Jyothy have been providing exam material extensively and they are also available online.
Against this backdrop, a large number of candidates are reportedly subscribed to Jio network to make use of unlimited 4 G free data to access or download the online classes. Speaking to The Hans India, Konninti Jaipal Reddy, studying MA in Arts College of Osmania University, said: “Jio’s free data promo offer has come like a godsend opportunity for many like me preparing for Group-II exam. The advantage is that we can also watch the experts using the interactive whiteboard to explain the subject.”
Stating that telecast of the classes happen on specified timings, Kadipikonda Srinivas Reddy, who works with a private company in Hanamkonda, said that even during my travel and leisure times, I am able to listen to the classes through my smart phone. Meanwhile, from November 1, Mana TV is also telecasting exclusive classes for hearing impaired, and these were also made available online. The Group – II exams are scheduled to held on November 11 and 13.
