The midterm CME of Breast Imaging Society of India (BISI) was organised by Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, in association with the Association of Breast Surgeons of India (ABSI), on Sunday.  The CME was inaugurated by Dr Kakarla Subba Rao, radiologist and Padmasree Awardee.

Over 100 delegates, both radiologists and surgeons from all across the country attended the conference, which had didactic lectures covering the gamut of breast imaging and a hands on workshop on interventions like ultrasound guided core biopsies, wire localisations and stereotactic core biopsies.

Dr M JwalaSrikala, senior consultant radiologist and organising secretary said “A radiologist, trained well in breast imaging and interventions is critical in the diagnosis and management of breast cancer. The aim of the conference is to train them in the most advanced imaging and interventional techniques”.

Dr P Raghu Ram, president, ABSI, said, “Knowledge in breast radiology is an essential skill required for surgeons practicing the art & science of breast surgery. ABSI is delighted to associate with this first of its kind initiative in Telangana & Andhra Pradesh”.

Breast cancer is the common cancer affecting women in India. Due to lack of awareness and absence of an organised population based Breast cancer screening program, more than 60 per cent of breast cancers present in advanced stages. Early diagnosis and timely treatment are the key to reducing the rising death rate from this disease.
