Videosource Studios, a city-based film production house that specialises in creating commercials, corporate films and documentaries has bagged the Best Production House award (South India) and the Best Corporate film award at the recently held Indian Advertising and Corporate Film Festival at New Delhi. It has the distinction of winning this award three times in a row and the Best Corporate Film award for two years in a row.

According to its MD Ajay Kurian, with the rise in social networking and video sharing sites like YouTube and Facebook, the demand for videos especially for online platforms has increased dramatically. Looking back at his journey, Ajay says, “When I wanted to join this industry, being a doctor, an engineer or a computer programmer were the only jobs people looked up to as a profession. My dad, KM Kurian had a professional television studio through which we used to rent out professional cameras and edit suites for serial makers. In fact my dad wanted me to become a computer programmer, as he did not see much scope for me in the studio business.”

“I didn’t want to be any of these, so I started my career with a production company as a trainee editor at Mumbai in 1997. From there I went on to become an assistant director and a then a director in a production house in Bengaluru.” “But when I came back in 2000 to Hyderabad, the studio business was slowly dying and the few commercials and ad films that were based out of Hyderabad used to be done in Mumbai. Hyderabad was then just growing and most multinational companies were just setting up shop here.”

“It was a difficult choice whether to go back to the rat race or to start off afresh. I think that decision of staying back in Hyderabad and concentrating on making films paid off. Today across verticals I can proudly say that we have worked with nearly all the major companies in India. This is due to the team who has stuck with me through the years. I think I can compare them to a world class rowing team.”

“The credit for these two awards goes to the entire team right from the camera assistants to the editors and director and to our clients who time and again have reposed their faith in us.”
