Khammam: The 133rd Formation Day of Indian National Congress was celebrated on a grand note by the leaders of Congress party here at Sanjeeva Reddy Bhavan in Khammam on Thursday.

Addressing the cadre after hoisting the national flag, district president of the party Aitham Satyam said Indian National Congress, which was formed in 1885 with 72 members, organised its first national conference in December 28 to 31 in Mumbai during which Umesh Chandra Banerjee was elected as the first president of All India Congress Committee.

From then, several movements were led by AICC for achieving India’s independence under the leadership of some of eminent personalities. The credit of achieving independence to India goes to Congress party which strived hard and participated in the freedom movement by uniting all sections of people across the country, he added.

“With the sacrifices of many great personalities from Congress party, we achieved independence to India. We are blessed to be a treated as Congress party activists and leaders in which the great personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Lala Lajpath Roy, Bala Gangadhar Tilak and Subash Bose had been part of it in the past,” he observed.

It is the responsibility of every member of Congress party to strengthen the party and take it to all sections of people, he advised. The Congress party is going to sweep the coming up 2019 elections under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, he opined.

Congress party leaders N Deepak Chowdary, V Narasimha Rao, Y B Tilak, Bandi Mani, Md Fazal, N Naresh, Md Isaac, Banothu Raju Naik, Pradeep, Chota Baba, P Venkat Rao, Sk Razeem, Santosh, B Ramesh, B Ganesh, P Anantha Lakshmi, Uday, Ramu and Purna were present along with others.
