Further to the entire episode that has taken place, NCP woman leader Asha Mirje has added fuel to a controversy by putting the blame on the rape victim.
In her statement Asha wondered what made the Nirbhaya to watch movie till 11 p.m and also blamed the victim's lack of dress sense and her manners. She addressed the women wing of NCP and raised these concerns.
AIADWA condemned the remarks made by Maharashtra State Women's Commission member Mirje's insensate remarks. AIADWA said she was unfit for her post. Many women organisations too were outraged at the comments.
It is worth recollecting the story that happened on that fateful night of December 16, 2012. The paramedical student along with her boyfriend had boarded a bus in New Delhi after watching a movie. The accused Ram Singh, Vinay, Akshay, Pawan, Mukesh and a juvenile had gangraped the girl in a bus.
The incident shook the nation’s conscience and flickered massive protests. The Center has ultimately come down and paved a way for the enforcement of new act for such incidents called Nirbhaya Act. In September, Saket court in Delhi sentenced the four accused to death while Ram Singh had died in the jail while the juvenile was sentenced to three years' imprisonment.
