Karimnagar: The Karimnagar district administration has fixed a target of planting 19.72 crore saplings in three years under the ambitious programme 'Harita Haram' to bring Karimnagar district under a green cover, prevent environment pollution and protect forest wealth.

The district administration has been making all out efforts to make the ‘Harita Haram’ programme a grand success. It has been resolved to plant 1.2 lakh saplings in each constituency. The administration has identified as many as 565 nurseries in Karimnagar district for selection of saplings to be planted as part of Harita Haram.

The responsibility was entrusted to various departments such as the District Water Management Agency (DWMA - 2.30 crore saplings), Forest Department (East) (70 lakh saplings), Forest Department (West) (1.05 crore saplings), Social Forestry Department (1.75 crore saplings), Singareni Colories Organisation (10 lakh saplings) and Horticulture (30 lakh saplings), Kesoram Cement Factory (2 lakh saplings) and NTPC Ramagundem (2 lakh saplings).

The administration has decided to grow a total of 19.72 crore saplings in three years. The objective is to plant 6.24 crore saplings each year. A total of 565 nurseries have been established and they have been assigned the task of growing 25 different varieties of saplings.
