Hyderabad: With the Warangal Lok Sabha by-elections likely to be held within a few months, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) leaders are gearing up for the contest, which it considers to be prestigious for the party.
Most of the top leaders will be camping in the second largest city in Telangana as part of the preparatory meetings in mandal and division levels between August 5 and 14. According to senior leaders of the party, the Warangal constituency, being a reserved one for Dalits, the Congress will be attacking the government for removing former deputy chief minister, T Rajaiah from the Cabinet only because of his caste.
While taking up the issue in public, the leaders will be blaming Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for his removal from the Cabinet, emphasising that the Chief Minister being upper caste could not digest his deputy’s popularity in the party.
“The Chief Minister has unnecessarily removed Rajaiah from the Cabinet and inducted Kadiam Srihari even though he was an MP. Now, the Warangal Lok Sabha seat has become vacant causing hardship to people and becoming a burden to public exchequer,” said T Nagaiah, TPCC vice-president and in-charge of preparatory meetings.
The TPCC formed seven committees for mobilisation of its cadre in Warangal district for the upcoming Lok Sabha by-elections. They will be holding meetings between August 5 to 14, covering two municipalities, 24 mandals and 58 divisions.
The party, which has already covered most of the Assembly constituencies between June 21 and June 25, will be now focusing on encouraging its cadre at village and mandal level. These committees will be coordinated by TPCC general secretary K Damodar, Warangal DCC president N Rajender Reddy, city president T Vidya Sagar and Dr Banda Prakash.
Each committee is being headed by TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy (Warangal East), working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka (Wardhannapet), CLP leader K Jana Reddy (Bhupalpally), deputy floor leader, T Jeevan Reddy (Parkal), former MP Sarvey Satyanarayana (Warangal West), former minister D Sridhar Babu (Palakurthi) and former PCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah (Station Ghanpur).
Covering average of three divisions daily in two Assembly constituencies of Warangal city, the other constituencies will be covered per each mandal a day. These meetings are scheduled to start at 10 am. “After completion of the meetings, we shall be forming booth level committees,” said Nagaiah.
