Hyderabad: Telangana State government is likely to constitute a Cabinet Sub-Committee to study and recommend on carving out new districts. The committee is likely to be headed by Finance minister E Rajender. It may be mentioned here that the TRS during the campaign in the run up to the elections had promised to create new districts.

They include Machiryal in Adilabad district, Jagityal and Sirisilla in Karimnagar district, Sanga Reddy in Medak district, Bhadrachlam in Khammam district, and Jangaon, Jayashnakar in Warangal district. There are also plants to create Hyderabad East, Central, Charminar, Golkonda and Secunderabad districts.

In the meantime, the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao directed the Backward Classes Welfare Department to set up one BC study circle in each district headquarter. A study circle would also be established in the Chief Minister’s home town, Siddipet. At present, the BC Welfare Department has its study circles in the State capital only.

Official sources said that the setting up of the BC circle in Siddipet would be a first step towards initiating official process for the creation of new districts. Further, in the recent meeting on ‘Grama Jyothi’ programme, KCR instructed the district officials to prepare a report on the availability of natural resources and the infrastructure in every village and at mandal level to ascertain the status of the development of the mandals.
