Cabinet on Saturday reportedly decided to have session for a week from Sept 23

Hyderabad: The monsoon session of the Telangana State Assembly is set to begin on September 23. The Cabinet, which met here on Saturday to deliberate on the subject, reportedly decided to have the Assembly session for a week. However, there is no official announcement in this regard.

The session will be a stormy one as the Opposition is gearing up to target the government on farmers’ suicides and the drought conditions in the state. In a preemptive move, the State government on Saturday decided to increase the ex gratia to farmers to Rs 6 lakh. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is said to have directed the officials and the Ministers to gather all information about the farmers’ suicides so as to counter the Opposition attack.

The Opposition also would launch an attack on the government for its proposal to change of design of various irrigation projects, particularly the Pranahita Chevella Project.

Though the government has been claiming that it had not shelved any project but was taking up re-engineering in view of the high cost involved in regard to lifting of water in the case of the Pranahita Chevella Project if the present design was followed, the Opposition is in no mood to buy this argument.

TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy said that if need be the Opposition would stall the proceedings of the House on the issues. He said unlike in the past this time the entire Opposition would work unitedly and with proper floor coordination they would force the government to take corrective measures on these issues.

Asked if the Opposition would move a no-confidence motion against the Speaker for not taking a decision on the disqualification of members who had switched their loyalties to the TRS, he said the matter was under examination and would decide after consulting other Opposition parties.
