In wake of terror incidents across the globe and keeping in view the past incidents of attacks in Hyderabad and Cyberabad, the police have ordered the dealers and retailers of SIM cards to verify the authenticity of customers and collect their identification cards while issuing new SIM cards.
Hyderabad: In wake of terror incidents across the globe and keeping in view the past incidents of attacks in Hyderabad and Cyberabad, the police have ordered the dealers and retailers of SIM cards to verify the authenticity of customers and collect their identification cards while issuing new SIM cards.
The commissioner said that in the incidents of terror attacks in the country and also in Hyderabad and Cyberabad, it was found that the terrorists have used several SIM cards to execute their attacks. The SIM cards in all the instances were obtained using false identification cards.
To prevent untoward incidents in the future, the dealers and retailers of SIM cards in Cyberabad should collect the identification proofs such as PAN cards, voter IDs, driving licence, ration card and Aadhaar card of the customer before issuing a SIM card.
“Verification of the customers with regards to the documents submitted is mandatory and they should be preserved with the bill to furnish them when police require details of a particular person. This information will be useful in identifying the terrorists and also pranksters who make hoax calls for their personal reasons or to trouble police,” the commissioner said in a note on Sunday.
The commissioner said that if the retailers or dealers fail to collect the identification cards and ensure the authentication before selling a SIM card, they would be liable for prosecution.
