Hyderabad: The PIL bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale and Justice SV Bhatt on Monday directed the government of Telangana to file an affidavit on the demolition of the IAS Officers Building at Begumpet. As reported earlier, the bench was dealing with a petition filed by Forum for a Better Hyderabad.

The petitioner contended that the building was classified as a heritage structure and the government had to first de-notify the same before demolition. The bench on Friday had directed the authorities not to demolish the building. Telangana Advocate General K Ramakrishna informed the court that most of the building was already demolished by the time the court had directed the authorities to stop the demolition. He further produced photographs to show the court of the extent of demolition.

The counsel for the petitioner said that as the demolition was done without any de-notification, the government must be directed to reconstruct the building as was done in one earlier cases. The bench felt that a counter affidavit from government was needed for further adjudication and adjourned the matter by three weeks.
