Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Book Fair (HBF)-2015, which concluded on Sunday, was a big hit among youngsters, particularly school and college students. On the concluding day youngsters thronged the fair to buy their favourite books. This year, all genre books English, Hindi and Telugu languages were up for the grab for the book lovers. Besides, students had the opportunity to get books like personality development, competitive studies, spiritual books, and rhymes for kids and children’s literature.

Though the e-textbooks have a sway over the printed books, fair could pull a crowd even on the week days and the crowd doubled on the weekends. The organisers of the event said there was increase in the number of visitors to the fair from 6 lakh last year to 8 lakh this year.
The students feel that the books still play an important role in their day-to-day activities. Osmania University, Research scholar, Sheshu Rathode said, “The depth of reading books improves language, knowledge and computer is just an alternative.”

It was a boon for the students and parents to get different variety of the books under one roof at a reasonable price.

Dava Rajitha a student said, “The academic standards are found more in books than online. Reading a book is more interesting and relaxing than reading online. I got the books at the reasonable in comparison with the one that are sold in the shops.” While there are no authentic books in the shops for preparing for the Telangana State Public Service Commission examinations, most of the visitors were in search for competitive examination books. Vishnu Vardhan, government job aspirant said, “Iam here to buy all the competitive exam books as we find different publishers books on one topic.”

OU student, Sangnmi Jamuna, “Though I could find some books regarding TSPSC’s examinations but I did not find them good enough to purchase.”

Navanchethana Publishing house owner, C Rajeshwar said, “We sell books for all age groups. There are 75 per cent Telugu language books and 25 per cent of English language books.”
