The Atmakur police have planned to plant around 25,000 saplings at Akkampet village, the birth place of Telangana ideologue Prof K Jayashankar as part of Haritha Haram program.

​Atmakur (Warangal): The Atmakur police have planned to plant around 25,000 saplings at Akkampet village, the birth place of Telangana ideologue Prof K Jayashankar as part of Haritha Haram programme.

Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu along with local MLA Ch Dharma Reddy, Sarvodaya Youth Organisation secretary P Damodar and local elected representatives have planted fruit bearing trees at Government Primary School in the village.

Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said after Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao took reigns of the government in the State, numerous innovative programmes have been introduced for the welfare of the public.

“Haritha Haram is one among such programmes and it would make a great impact on the future generations,” he said.

Commissioner Sudheer Babu said that police would adopt Akkampet village.

A memorial park and a library in honour of Prof Jayashankar would be set up in the village. As part of the plantation programme a minimum of five saplings would be planted in each household.

Kazipet ACP B Janardhan, Atmakur CI Ravi Kumar, SI Ramakrishna, village sarpanch K Kumaraswamy, ZPTC Sanjeeva Reddy, MPP G Mallikarjun and others were present.

Earlier in the day, the Commissioner planted saplings of ‘Ekabilvapatram’ at Sri Siddeshwaralayam in Hanamkonda.

The leaves of tree are used in worshipping Lord Shiva. The temple priests Ravi Kumar and Suresh Kumar, Hanamkodna ACP P Shoban Kumar, CI Sampath Rao and others were present.
