Hyderabad: TSRTC has decided to procure 1,575 new buses and 236 mini-buses to replace its ageing fleet. TSRTC Chairman S Satyanarayana, who chaired a review meeting with the directors at Bus Bhavan on Tuesday, said the fare-hike by the Corporation fetched Rs 250 crore and this amount was paid as arrears to all the employees.

He said that the Corporation would face an additional loss of Rs 900 crore this year. Stating that the target for the current year was to increase revenues by Rs 5,000 crore, he added that all steps were being taken by the Corporation towards this objective.

The Chairman said that the Corporation would procure 1,575 new buses and 236 mini-buses this year. He further said that mini-buses would be operated between Warangal-Hyderabad and that passengers would be picked up right from their residences and dropped at their door-steps. He clarified that there was no proposal to decrease the number of Palle Velugu and city buses.

He said that as per the directions of the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, TSRTC was leaving no stone unturned to bring the Corporation on the road to profits. “We are doing everything possible to generate passenger goodwill by making improvements such as having clean and hygienic bus stations,” said Satyanarayana. He said that decisions were taken in coordination with the local level staff.

TSRTC MD G V Ramana Rao said they were planning to ply 1,150 special buses for Krishna Pushkaralu. He said enough buses would be made available for the benefit of the passengers. The buses of the Corporation would directly reach the bathing ghats, he said.
