Hyderabad: Telangana State government on Friday requested NITI Aayog vice-chairman Arvind Panagariya to extend financial assistance from the Centre to the prestigious Mission Bhagiratha and Haritha Haram programmes for speedy completion of both the projects.

As part of his official visit to the State, the vice-chairman held a meeting with top State officials attended by State special chief secretary (Planning) B P Acharya, IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, government advisers G K Reddy and A K Goel and others here. Officials explained to the NITI Aayog official the benefits of Mission Bhagiratha aimed at supplying safe drinking water to 80 lakh families every day and the progress in the works.

He was also informed about the objective of Haritha Haram wherein 46 crore saplings would be planted this year to increase forest cover to 33 per cent. The NITI Aayog official was keen to know about the state government’s initiative of introducing reforms in the labour department, including opening of shops and establishments for 365 days.
