Hyderabad: Demanding that the State government purchase soybean, which lost colour in the heavy rains, and pay Rs 10,000 per acre as compensation for the damaged crop and take up crop cutting under Upadi Hami Scheme, TPCC Chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy wondered as to how the local MP K Kavitha would tour foreign countries in the name of Bathukamma leaving the farmers to the wind.

He also asked the government to take up crop loss assessment as soon as possible and prepare a perfect plan for Rabi season. TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy visited soybean crops in Nizamabad district. He examined the crop in Mullangi village in Nizamabad district on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Uttam demanded the TRS government that they provide minimum support price of Rs 3,300 per quintal to soybean, which lost color due to heavy rains, as announced by the Centre. He also asked the Centre to give Rs10,000 per acre for soybean crop, which was destroyed due to heavy rains. Consoling the farmers, Uttam Kumar enquired about the crop conditions in Nizamabad district.

The farmers told Uttam that the bank loans were not waived off yet and due to that the banks were not giving new loans. The farmers bemoaned that the government has not yet added the compensation announced earlier in their accounts though they were losing several crop seasons. They lamented that the government was delaying the process of assessment of present crop loss resulting in the delayed sanction of compensation.

Uttam Kumar said that the farmers were unable to pay farm labourers and asked the government to implement NREGS to provide livelihood. He asked the government to keep the seed readily to the farmers for Rabi season and also see that there won’t be scarcity of fertilisers.

He alleged that the local MP was enjoying in foreign countries in the name of Bathukamma festival while neglecting the farmers suffering from severe crop damage in the district.

He warned that the people would teach a fitting lesson to such leaders, who were passing time by side tracking the problems of people. Former Minister Sudharshan Reddy, MLC Akula Lalitha, former Speaker KR Suresh Reddy, AICC official spokesperson Madhu Yashki Goud, DCC Chief Thaher Bin Ahmadan, Congress Kisan Cell Chairman M Kodanda Reddy, TPCC general secretary Mahesh Kumar Goud and others participated in the programme.
