Hyderabad: The demonetisation of high-value currency notes seems to have a made significant impact on all political parties in the State.
All the parties, including the ruling party, have put off their programmes following the crisis arising out of scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.
The TRS has decided to put on hold a mammoth public meeting scheduled in December in Hyderabad. The meeting is to mark the completion of 30 month rule.
The fresh date will be announced once the adverse impact of demonetisation eases, party sources told The Hans India.
The party had originally planned to hold a day-long function to showcase the culture of Telangana State, which would have culminated in a public meeting.
Party leaders said the demonetisation which led to all-round misery to people had led to the decision to postpone the celebrations.
KCR had actually planned to hold a week-long training programme in December first week and constitute village and mandal level party committees by the end of December and speed up the strengthening of the party at grass roots beginning from January.
The main opposition party Telangana Congress also postponed public meeting scheduled to be held in the city in December to highlight the TRS government’s failures, particularly in the area of agriculture and education sectors.
The ongoing agitations on the waiver of farmers’ loans and delay in fee reimbursement in the district had also been put off. It also decided postpone all the proposed agitations to highlight the failure of the government.
The TDP Telangana unit which had drawn up a big plan to expose the TRS government’s failures by organising various programmes said that they too had decided to wait till the situation improved.
Party working President A Revanth Reddy, who completed his first round Padayatra on farmers issues, rescheduled his second phase of yatra.
The party President L Ramana said the Centre’s decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes would certainly rescue the country from the menace of black money.
Considering the people’s woes during this transit period , the party decided to stay away from taking up any political activity.
The BJP Telangana unit also deferred its plans to launch agitation on farmers issues. The party floor leader in the Assembly G Kishan Reddy had planned to visit all families of the farmers who committed suicide in Telangana villages and BJP President K Laxman was to hold regular dharnas on flow of liquor in the districts.
They were to take up the agitations from November end. The party postponed all its agitations till January, a senior leader said.
The YSR Congress party, which was planning to revive the party in Telangana by holding yatras led by Sharmila cancelled the programmes.
