Hyderabad: The Telangana Minorities Welfare Department (TMWD) and the Telangana State Urdu Academy will be jointly organising various cultural and literary programmes in connection with the centenary celebrations of the Osmania University from May 22 to 25.

A two-day National Seminar on ‘Osmania University – History, Culture and Prospects’ will be organised on May 22 and 23 at The Plaza, Greenlands, Begumpet. The fete will conclude with performance of renowned Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas at a grand programme of ‘Shaam-e-gazal’ on May 25.Speaking to the media here on Wednesday A K Khan, Advisor to Government, Minority Welfare, gave details of the centenary celebrations programme.

He said Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali will preside over the inaugural session, to be held at 10.30 am on May 22. Besides A K Khan, Syed Omer Jaleel, Secretary to Government Minorities Welfare Department, Prof Sulaiman Siddiqui, former VC of Osmania University and Nawab Fazal Jah (son of Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan Bahadur) will be the chief guests. Prof Anwar Mouazzam, former Head, Department of Islamic Studies, OU, will deliver keynote address.

Khan said that the grand ‘Shaam-e-gazal’ programme will be organised on May 25 at 7pm at Lalitha Kala Thoranam, Public Gardens, Nampally. Local singers will also participate in the programme. Prof S A Shukoor, convener of the Seminar and Shaam-e-Gazal appealed to Urdu lovers and students, faculty and alumnae of the University to participate in the programmes.
