There was knee-deep water in several places. Many localities in the city were inundated due to floodwater and vehicular traffic was moving at a snail’s pace at Kukatpally and Miyapur along the Lingampally-BHEL stretch.
Areas including Punjagutta, Banjara Hills, Nampally, Madhapur, Mehdipatnam, Secunderabad, Hi-Tech city and adjacent localities in the IT corridor saw municipal workers and traffic police struggling to drain the flooded roads and to regulate traffic.
With more rains forecast in the next five days, the denizens are bracing up for harrowing times. Besides complaints of power failure in some parts of the city, Metro Rail works were suspended at all locations as a precautionary measure. The Met officials said rains would continue to lash the city, north Telangana, north coastal Andhra regions in the next 48 hours.
Motorists experienced exasperating traffic jams at Kachiguda, Masab Tank, Katta Maisamma Temple, Kavadiguda, Nampally Police Control Room, Balkampet Yellamma Temple, Tolichowki, Suryanagar Colony, Taj Island Junction, Begumpet, Greenlands and Punjagutta Crossroads.
ECIL Crossroads, Tarnaka, Mettuguda, Nagaram, AS Rao Nagar, Anandbagh and Malkajgiri, Mettuguda areas have been waterlogged. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Cooperation (GHMC) deployed 140 Monsoon Action Teams that had 590 personnel working at places where waterlogging was reported. The public can notify the teams through Twitter, WhatsApp, My GHMC App or they can also dial the GHMC call centre on 040-21111111.
Meanwhile, the water level in Hussainsagar has risen due to incessant rain in the city and outskirts. According to the Irrigation officials, the inflow is at 1,200 cusecs of water while the outflow is 300 cusecs. Hussainsagar gates were lifted to release the water downstream. Alerted GHMC officials pressed into service the rescue and rehabilitation measures.
