Heavy rain forecast

Hyderabad: The Met department here on Tuesday warned of heavy rains occurring at isolated places in all the districts of Telangana on August 17 and 18. This is due to an upper air cyclonic circulation developing over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining coast of Odisha and West Bengal on August 17.

According to the bulletin issued by the Met department, the rains were due to Monday’s trough from Odisha across Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema was persisting. Another trough runs from Vidarbha to south-interior Karnataka across Telangana.

The forecast said light to moderate rains/thundershowers were likely to occur at many places in Telangana from August 16 to 19. The weather would not witness any major changes during the subsequent three days, the forecast added.

According to the bulletin, the rains are the result of the North-south trough running from Rayalaseema to south Tamil Nadu extending up to 0.9 km above the mean sea level. It said Monday’s upper air cyclonic circulation from south-coastal Tamil Nadu and its neighbourhood extending up to 0.9 km above the mean sea level has become less marked.

Similarly, Monday’s cyclonic circulation over Marathwada and its neighbourhood at 5.8 km above the mean sea level has become less marked.

During the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Tuesday, the Southwest monsoon was found to be weakening over the Telangana State. Isolated rain occurred in Karimnagar, Adilabad and Rangareddy districts with Dharmapuri in Karimnagar recording 5 cm of rainfall. While there was 2 cm of rainfall each in Boath (Adilabad) and Chevella, 1 cm was recorded in Luxettipet.
