Tandur: Latest surveys held by prominent organisations awarded top position to Tandur in the county in terms of air pollution. The town popularly known for cement factories and mines with granite spread in hundreds of acres. The never ending exploitation of the natural resources led to dust pollution, which has been creating panic among environmentalists.

Tandur residents have fallen victims to respiratory diseases, cardiac problems and kidney ailments. The town became viral in social media with its top position in air pollution. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has last year directed three cement manufacturing units in Telangana to shut down their operations for non-compliance with pollution control norms. Out of the three units one is public-sector Cement Corporation of India located in Tandur.

In case of stone industry, Tandur is known for its blue, green and yellow coloured limestone. The town is the main producer and distributor for blue limestone which can be used for flooring, wall cladding and even for slabs.

The World Health Organization’s database of 2018 contained the results of ambient air pollution monitoring from almost 2700 towns and cities in 91 countries. Air quality in the database is represented by the annual mean concentration of particulate matter. According to the database the most polluted city isn’t Beijing or Delhi, it is a town in India that is Tandur it has more pollution than Kanpur.
