Organiser Shiva told The Hans India that representatives of the society have treated many birds injured by ‘manja’ just before the Sankranti festival. He says some birds die of electrocution after touching road-side wires.
Shiva said that he stared rescuing animal when he was happened to sight a struggling monkey with wounds which came in touch with a live wire. Then after, he has been looking after the monkey along with many other animals and birds, which were rescued, by offering shelter in his house. Not only injured monkey but also a crane, several ducks, a rabbit, a squirrel, some owls and other birds were being protected.
“I treat them like my family members “, Shiva says showing the humane side of his personality. “My family members also share the responsibility of tending to the needs of our honoured guests.” The society spends Rs 1,000 on a day on food and other errands.
Shiva spends money from his own packet to take care of injured animal or bird. The Sarva Jeeva Society representatives provide treatment to sick road-side puppies and distribute them to those interested in keeping them as pets.
Shiva urges the State government to recognise the services being extended by the society to treat injured animals and provide a shelter. “We are ready to offer treatment to stray cows and horses anywhere in the twin cities. For this purpose a mobile ambulance is being pressed into service”, says Shiva. The society could be reached on its helpline 8885577008.
