Siddipet: Local legislator Harish Rao on Monday presented silk robes to the presiding deity at Uma Parthiva Sametha Kotilingala Temple in the town on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri. He performed special poojas. Later, he visited Sri Swamayambhu Rajeshwara Swamy Temple at Potlapally village of Husnabad constituency in the district. Here also he offered silk robes to the presiding deity. Local legislator Satish Kumar, State Tourism Department chairman Bhupathi Reddy were present. The Shiva temples in the district witnessed a heavy rush of devotees. People started visiting them from 5 am. The temple authorities made special arrangements expecting the devotees in large numbers. Barricades were arranged, drinking water has been provided. Tents were erected in front of the temples to provide some relief to the visitors from summer heat. People were seen competing with each other to participate in special poojas to the Shivalingam. Volunteers were doing their best in controlling the crowd in a smooth way. Most of the temples made special arrangements to elders and physically challenged in getting hassle-free darshan of the presiding deity. The centres of worship reverberated with ‘Aumkara’ chantings by the devotees. As most of the devotees preferred to undergo fasting, rates of fruits skyrocketed with the festive demand.
