Hyderabad: Shaik Muzammil Pasha, a 12-year-old Hyderabadi lad bagged the National Top Invention Award, for inventing shoes for reducing the knee pain. He won the IGNITE-2014 award from National Innovation Foundation, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The story about this young innovator appeared for the first time in these columns on January 23, 2014 highlighting his creativity and invention process. This brought him the much needed recognition.
IGNITE is the national competition of original technological ideas and innovations of school children. The IGNITE awards were initiated as President award and was announced on October 15, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s birthday, which is celebrated as the children’s creativity and innovation day by NIF, ( National Innovation Fund ) Government of India. Pasha has developed the ‘Knee pain reducing shoes’ by elevating the front so as to restore the body’s gravity line and avoid weight from falling on the knees. He designed the shoes with multiple applications like knee, toe and back pain removal, making comfort to wear shoes for long time, exercise and weight reduction etc. Master Pasha applied for patent in March through NIF and NIF selected his candidature for IGNITE award also along with patent. Out of 27,000 applications, 22 inventions were selected and Muzammil Pasha’s invention ‘Modification in shoe to alleviate knee pain’ is the only one from Telangana. Pasha is the youngest awardee among all. The IGNITE award will be given to Muzammil Pasha on November 19 by President of India and Dr APJ Abdul Kalam at IIM Ahmedabad. His patent also will be handed over on the same day.
Muzammil Pasha said that he will work hard to bring out the shoes to reduce knee pain with the help of NIF and work on other projects which are useful for the society. Invention and Patent filing at 12 years makes Shaik Muzammil Pasha, a role model for many children. Muzammil Pasha is a student of Class VII in Castle Town High School at Rajeev Nagar, Hyderabad. Director Bramara Prasad, Principal Cecilia Alphonsa, all teachers and students of school congratulated Pasha for his outstanding achievement.
