Hanamkonda (Warangal): It's commendable to see people voluntarily coming forward to install closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in their colonies, Government Chief Whip D Vinay Bhaskar said. Inaugurating the CCTV camera surveillance network along with Commissioner of Police V Ravinder, at Kodandarama Nilayam Colony in Balasamudram area on Monday, he said that CCTV footage has become extremely crucial in preventing crime. "CCTV plays a vital role in preventing crimes as its footage establishes the identity of the criminals. This works as a deterrent," he said. Referring to the gruesome incident in which a nine-month-old infant was molested and killed a few months ago in Hanamkonda, Vinay said that the police had established the identity of the culprit through CCTV footage. He said that CCTV camera surveillance is now considered as one of the important tools for deterring criminal activity and as well as for identifying criminals.

Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner of Police V Ravinder said that their emphasis is on improving CCTV surveillance. Stating that each CCTV camera is equal to 100 police personnel, he commended the residents for voluntarily installing CCTV surveillance in their colony. With surveillance CTV footage playing a crucial role in crime detection, investigation and conviction, people have started to believe the initiative, he said.

Kakatiya Urban Development Authority chairman Marri Yadava Reddy, 39th Division Corporator Samala Srinivas and colony residents were present.

In a related development, the Commissioner of Police V Ravinder inaugurated CCTV camera network at Vikas Nagarin Subedari police station limits. Speaking on the occasion, he said that they were striving to turn Warangal into crime-free city. He emphasised the need for people's participation in crime detection by installing CCTV camera surveillance in their colonies. He said that there are quite a few instances in which even the complainants or their family members were caught on the wrong side of the law due to the CCTV footage. He said that as many as 3,000 CCTV cameras have been installed in 600 villages across Commissionerate limits in last two and a half months.
