Hyderabad: All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary V Hanumantha Rao on Friday expressed optimism over securing the support of Jana Sena party for the Congress candidate in Huzurnagar bypoll.

Addressing the media, he stated that he has met Jana Sena leaders of the Telangana unit along with Congress leaders B Kishan and Laxmaiah Yadav and sought their support.

He mentioned that Jana Sena leaders would take the request to the notice of their party chief Pawan Kalyan. Rao said that he was optimistic about getting the support of the Jana Sena for the by-poll as the actor-turned-politician has been working with Congress against uranium mining in two Telugu States.

The India Congress Committee leader said that the Jana Sena candidate secured 2,000 votes in the general elections to the Assembly in Huzurnagar constituency and its candidate got 11,000 votes in Nalgonda Lok Sabha constituency.

Hanumantha Rao said that there was no wrong in taking the support of Jana Sena. He made it clear that some inefficient leaders have been making unnecessary comments on his closeness with Pawan Kalyan.

He said that he would campaign in Huzurnagar after Dasara festival. I would urge the BCs of the constituency to vote for the Congress as the communities were neglected by TRS government, he alleged.

Rao has criticised the CPI State unit for announcing its support to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) candidate in Huzurnagar. He said that even Communist Party of India (CPI) leaders have been faulting the State leadership for this.
