Four construction workers were severely injured in roof collapse in Bhongir on Wednesday

Yadadri: Four construction workers were severely injured in roof collapse in Bhongir on Wednesday. The injured were identified as Chennaiah and Venkataswamy of Mahabubnagar; Appanna of Srikakaulam and Ramulu of Tanduru and they were shifted to Bhongir Government Hospital for better treatment after providing first-aid at Yadagirigutta PHC.

As a part of Yadadri development, presidential suite comprising the main block and 20 villas at a cost of Rs 100 crore, was planned on the hillock. As migrant labourers returned to their native places, the officials engaged local workers to lay slab of fourth floor of sixth villa. Centering work was completed on Tuesday.

When the workers are spreading the RCC material evenly, suddenly the slab was collapsed. Chennaiah, Venakata Swamy, Appanna and Ramulu fell on first floor and severely injured as the collapsed slab concrete fell on them. Other workers dragged them from under the concrete heap. R&B officials rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the Government Hospital after carrying out first aid at Yadagirigutta PHC. While a few construction workers alleged that they are working without safety shields and the officials are not visiting the site regularly, R&B Executive Officer Vasanth Naik told The Hans India that the accident happened due to the new workers, who are working on the slab works. All the injured are safe and undergoing treatment, he added. He informed that out of the four villas, construction of three villas was completed and sixth villa works started recently.
