International Day of Persons with Disabilities observed at Raj Bhavan
International Day of Persons with Disabilities has been observed at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday with traditional fervour and gaiety.
Hyderabad: International Day of Persons with Disabilities has been observed at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday with traditional fervour and gaiety.
Students from different schools of disability have demonstrated their hidden talents before the Governor and others for over two and a half hours.
Addressing the gathering, Governor, Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said, "I salute to your confidence, courage and ability to overcome the inability to stand as a role model in the society. I have no words to express. You have excelled with your performance."
The theme for this 2019 IDPD is 'promoting the participation of persons with disabilities and their leadership" which focuses on the empowerment of persons with disabilities for inclusive, equitable and sustainable development.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said the government always will be in the forefront to extend any kind of help they deserve, she added. She said, she has enjoyed every moment of the cultural events and congratulated the organizations who are supporting them and more particularly the trainees who are giving them training in various cultural activities.
Several National awardees with disability have participated and said for the first time disabled day celebrations are being held in Darbar Hall and this is a gift from the Governor.
An awardee of President of India and Assistant Government Pleader, Chandrasu Priya who is a visually impaired said she has been practising law in high court since 18 years and she never lost a single government case so far. She said disabled women are braver and I argue my cases without seeing at official files, such is my memory, she said.
Arjuna Awardee (Badminton) Srinivasa Rao who has lost two legs in an accident, Anjana Reddy, recipient of President of India's award (Badminton) who has spinal cord injury, Aditya Mehta – Asian Cycling Championship and many others have described their experiences how they have come out with some disability and stood as role models.
Earlier the school children from deaf and dumb, visually impaired sang the National song in sign language and presented various cultural programmes.
The Governor distributed wheelchairs, tricycles, hearing aids and other appliances to over 100 disabled persons and hosted lunch to all the invitees.
