Karimnagar: The Central team continued its awareness campaign on water conservation in Karimnagar district. The team along with District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed and district officials visited several villages in Gangadhara mandal on Thursday.

They visited Garshakurthy village and inspected NRM works like community farm pond, fish pond, plantation sites etc. they also interacted with school children in the school premises and later conducted awareness meetings with the villagers, SHGs, Swachhagrahis and farmers.

Speaking to the farmers, Central Nodal Officer Satinder Pal Singh, IPS, said that the entire country is facing severe water problem. He told the farmers to store every drop of rainwater for future generations and to maintain groundwater levels for drinking and irrigation purposes. At present there are several nations facing severe water crisis as they are purchasing water from other nations. "If we want not to have such situation in our country, then start conserving water," he appealed.

District Collector Sarfaraj Ahmad said that district action plan was already prepared for conservation of water from July 1 this year to 15 September to take up 150 soak pits, 10 farm ponds, distillation of all tanks in every village. They interacted with the villagers and farmers and visited plantation sites and expressed their satisfaction. They requested all the villagers to take an oath to save water and don't waste.

Further he said that every farmer has to go for cultivation of maize, red gram, green gram, jowar etc, which require less water and to dig one farm pond in their field to store rainwater and to increase groundwater levels.

Later, they inspected check dam constructed under MGNREGS at Venkataiahpalli village.

District officials A Venkateshwar Rao, DRDO N Hari Kumar, DGNO Srinivasa Rao Gupta, DIO A Manjula Devi, APD, MPDO, Sarpanch, SHGs, Swatchagrahis, NGOs and others attended the campaign.
