Wanaparthy conducts Bathukamma rally to mark the ongoing celebrations

Wanaparthy: The district administration of Wanaparthy has embarked on a grand celebration of Bathukamma festival on Monday. Earlier, the district administration had charted out a plan to conduct the nine-day Bathukamma festival under the supervision of District Rural Development Officials and Agriculture Department officials with the support of Cultural department. Accordingly, the district administration had taken out a huge procession from Government Polytechnic College grounds on Monday where Zilla Parishad Chairman Loknath Reddy flagged off the rally.

Speaking on the occasion, the ZP Chairman said, "Bathukamma is the only festival in the world where women from all ages celebrate with a variety of flowers and offer prayers to Goddess Gauri for nine continuous days. This tradition and culture of Telangana is seen nowhere in the world and it is really a unique festival to the State of Telangana. This festival which is celebrated in every village reflects the culture and tradition of our State."

The women groups and officials from different departments including education, tourism, culture agriculture, civil supplies and along with a large number of public took part in the Bathukamma procession. The procession was taken out from Polytechnic College to District Collectorate. At the District Collectorate, District Collector Sweta Mohanty took part in the celebrations.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said, "This time, we have decided to celebrate Bathukamma festival in a grand manner. As part of this, we have already directed all the departments to take the responsibility of conducting the celebrations one day each. On October 2, we have decided to conduct the Mega Bathukamma."

While on Sunday, women celebrated the Yengilipoola Bathukamma, on Monday they celebrated the Atukula Bathukamma organised by the officials of DRDO. Venkataiah, District Revenue Officer, Ganesh, DRDO Project Director, Venkateshwarlu DPRO, Assistant Project Director, Renuka from Civil Supplies department and others took part in the celebrations.
