EC releases schedule for the poll to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Dokka Manikya Vara Prasad in March this year

Amaravati: The Election Commission on Monday announced byelection to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council from MLAs quota for the casual vacancy caused by the resignation of Dokka Manikya Vara Prasad.

It may be recalled that Vara Prasad submitted his resignation on March 9 though he tenure would end on March 29, 2023 after he decided to join the YSRCP.

The notification for the bypoll would be released on June 18, and last date for receiving nominations would be June 25. After scrutiny of the nominations on June 26, the candidates would be allowed to withdraw nominations up June 29.

The election would be conducted on July 6 from 9 am to 4 pm and the counting would be taken up on the same day at 5 pm. The whole process of election should be completed by July 8. The office of the Chief Electoral Officer stated that adequate measures for close monitoring of the election process by appointing observers should be taken to ensure free and fair election.

The Election Commission directed the Chief Secretary to depute a senior officer to ensure that the extant instructions regarding Covid-19 containment measures are complied with while making arrangements for conducting elections.
