Chittoor: Panchayat Raj Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy has instructed the concerned engineering chief to initiate restoration works for the collapsed Gargeya river bridge with immediate effect.

He said that he would obtain approval from the CM for constructing new bridge soon. It may be recalled here that due to heavy floods under the influence of cyclone Nivar, the oldest Gargeya Bridge situated near Sadum mandal in Punganur Assembly Constituency was collapsed on Saturday.

It is noted that no human loss has been occurred due to collapse of the ancient bridge.

The Minister, MP N Reddappa, Thamballapalli MLA Dwarakanath Reddy and others rushed to Sadum on Saturday to enquire the details of the incident. Speaking on the occasion, Peddireddy said that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has made an aerial survey over the disaster.

"The CM has already announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for the deceased of Nivar cyclone calamity. Crop loss to the farmers witnessed due to heavy rains in the last few days would be remitted shortly after enumeration," he added.

He said instructions were given to District Collector N B Gupta for submitting a detailed report on the crop loss witnessed in the district. He reiterated that he would convene a meet of the district officers shortly to review the steps taken under relief operations in the district.
