Junior colleges proposed in high schools: CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy
The government is planning to start junior colleges in the government schools having a student strength of 500.
Guntur: The government is planning to start junior colleges in the government schools having a student strength of 500. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has already held discussions with the officials of High Education in this regard.
At present there are 450 government junior colleges in the State. According to sources in the School Education Department, there are 4,675 high schools under the Zilla Parishad management in the State. Of them, as many as 1,050 schools have more than 500 student strength.
Similarly, there are 194 government schools which have more than 500 student strength. Municipal schools come under the purview of Director of Municipal Administration. Municipal Corporation of Nellore has already started a residential junior college. Some more Municipal Corporations have proposed to set up junior colleges in the municipal high schools.
The students from poor families cannot afford to study in private junior colleges because of high tuition fee. This has promoted the government to propose to start junior colleges in high schools.
Guntur-Krishna districts Graduates constituency MLC K S Lakshmana Rao said "We are demanding that the government start Intermediate in | high schools to help students from poor families.
The Kerala government has already started plus two classes and Intermediate classes in high schools. In AP, we have separate board for Intermediate. If the government will start Intermediate classes in the government high schools, it will help students from lower income background."
