Srikakulam: The integrated protect drinking water scheme proposed at Palasa in the district has provoked people's ire as it is reportedly well-planned.

The local people have been demanded that the proposal be planned well to ensure success of the scheme. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy laid foundation stone during his tour in Palasa two months ago.

The administration has proposed the integrated drinking water scheme in Itchapuram and Palasa Assembly constituencies at an estimated cost of Rs 600 crore. The integrated protected drinking water scheme proposed in Palasa mandal is designed to draw water from Mahendra Tanaya river. For it off-shore reservoir has to be built.

But even 25 per cent of works on reservoir has not been completed. Reverse tendering system has been adopted for building reservoir. It is not feasible to ensure success of the scheme without completing the works of reservoir, experts felt. and government decided to prepare re-estimations on it.

"We are going to review the project as per government orders and will re-submit estimates as per present requirements" said Executive Engineer (EE) of the off-shore project B Sekhar explained to The Hans India.
