New Delhi: Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay have designed a prototype of a 21-foot-high smog tower. This was done by Prof. of the Department of Environmental Engineering of the Institute. It has been prepared under the leadership of Anil Kumar Dixit and former student Dr. Avtar Kumar. The cooperation of this tower will help in reducing Delhi's pollution.

Dr. Avtar Kumar is also the CEO and founder of Startup Sustainable Approach for Green Environment (SEZ), established at IIT Bombay. Anil Kumar has been working with Dixit on an ambient air cleaning system project for two years. A prototype of the smog tower has been prepared under this project.

Dr. Avtar Kumar has said that this smog tower has the potential to reduce polluted particles such as PM2.5 and PM10 in the nearest environment by 50 percent. Right now it works through electricity. Working on running it with solar energy and wind energy. It will cost Rs 25 lakh to install a smog tower. CPCB experts are in talks about this tower.

Will work like this

It will be installed at Connaught Place and Anand Vihar in Delhi before the onset of winter. Dr. Avtar Kumar said that this smog tower absorbs pollutants like PM 2.5, PM 10 and polluted gases like nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide and releases pure air into the atmosphere. It is helpful in reducing pollution in the range of 300 to 500 meters.

IIT Delhi will review the results

After the installation of this tower, IIT Delhi will be evaluated by studying the an atmosphere of that place. In which it will be seen that with the help of this tower, the place where it has been installed is removing only polluted particles from the atmosphere.
