Kukatpally: The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was celebrated here on Tuesday at the local GHMC circle office under the auspices of Kukatpally Divyangula Samakya. Mamata, the GHMC zonal commissioner, addressing the participants, advised members of disabled organisations to attend Sadaram camps for obtaining certificates and join self-help groups for leading respectable lives.

She observed that the disabled need not feel dejected because of their physical conditions, but should strive boldly with confidence to face problems in life. She and GHMC Deputy Commissioner Mohan Reddy advised the disabled to progress by utilising the incentives like welfare schemes and bus passes provided by the government.

Balanagar corporator Narendra Acharya stated that the State government increased the assistance to disabled from Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,016. He thanked the government on behalf of the disabled. Among those present on the occasion were Kukatpally Town Disabled Samakya President Sriramulu, TRS leaders Lakshmipati, Chiranjivi, Nagaraju, meritorious persons with disabilities.
