Hyderabad: Telangana High Court has sentenced six-months jail term to Karimnagar Police Commissioner VB Kamalasan Reddy and two of his subordinates, holding them guilty of contempt of court.

The court has announced the verdict over Pushpanjali Country Resort, where the orders were issued by Justice PV Sanjay Kumar who observed that the district police boss, Karimnagar ACP Thirupathi and Karimnagar Rural Inspector Shashidhar Reddy wilfully disobeyed the court orders.

The officers were imposed a fine of ₹2,000 each and directed to deposit ₹10,000 towards exemplary costs to the State Legal Services Authority. However, the punishment order would be in suspension for one month, facilitating the officers to go for an appeal against it.

The management of Pushpanjali Country Resort located on Karimnagar outskirts in Theegalaguttapally village approached the HC alleging that police were not allowing its members to play rummy though it was legally allowed.

In the context, the judges passed an order directing the police not to interfere with the rummy game and directed the resort to install CCTV cameras, record entire recreational activities there and store the date for police verification.

Two years later, the petitioner came back to the HC alleging that police raids didn't stop and resort acting president Jagapathi Rao filed the contempt case.

They told the court that police came in huge platoons and arrested several persons in violation of the court orders. Observing that the police action was not acceptable, the judge held the police officers guilty of contempt of court and announced the punishment.
