Tirupati: The alliance between the TDP and BJP seems to be posing yet another problem to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP president Chandrababu Naidu. There is intense competition between the leaders of both the parties to secure the coveted post of TTD chairman. While there are several leaders within the TDP vying with each other to secure the TTD chief post, the BJP leaders are also reportedly exerting pressure on Chandrababu to allot the post to their party.
The race among the leaders to secure the post has intensified as the term of the present Chairman Kanumuri Bapiraju would end soon. According to the tradition being followed in the State, the post of TTD chairman will go to a representative of the ruling party. As such the aspiring TDP leaders are confident that they would be able to bag the post. They are demanding that the Chief Minister should remove Bapiraju and his team from the TTD Executive Board and replace them with the TDP leaders. The candidates who could not secure party tickets during the last general elections are aspiring for the TTD chief post. They have intensified their lobbying and started mounting pressure on the party supremo Chandrababu who is grappling with various problems being faced by Andhra Pradesh.
It is learnt that Babu has already finalised the name of senior leader Chadalavada Krishna Murthy for the TTD Chairman post. Krishna Murthy was reportedly given an assurance by Babu during the last elections. However, other senior leaders like Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu and Rayapati Sambasiva Rao are also in the race. Stating that he would have secured berth in Babu’s Cabinet if he had won the election, Muddukrishnama Naidu is now urging the party leadership to provide him the TTD chief post.
It has been a long cherished desire of Rayapati Sambasiva Rao to secure the TTD chairman post. He could not realise his dream while he was in the Congress party. Having recently joined the TDP, he has begun his earnest efforts to secure the post.
Meanwhile, the BJP leaders have also started exerting pressure on Chandrababu to provide the TTD Chief post to their party. Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu reportedly indicated to Babu to reserve the post for his followers.
