​Eluru: Water Resources Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao alleged that Opposition leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is obstructing the construction of Polavaram irrigation project, as he does not wish completion of the project. The Minister said Jagan has no right to talk about farmers and questioned why he was planning a visit to Polavaram area.

The Minister visited Tammileru aqueduct at Janampeta village in Pedavegi mandal of West Godavari district on Monday. He inspected the ongoing works at the aqueduct. Irrigation Superintending Engineer Srinivas Yadav, officials and contract agency representatives explained the progress of works of the aqueduct to the Minister.

Later, addressing the media, he said that works of all the pending projects in the State are going on at full pace. The Minister asked the opposition leader to clarify whether his party MP Mithun Reddy filed tenders on behalf of PLR Company for the construction of illegal projects in Telangana State.

He said that the YSRCP leaders are contractors for the construction of Palamuru and Rangareddy projects in Telangana. However, the Andhra Pradesh government and the farmers have approached Supreme Court on the construction of projects in the upstream in Telangana State.

He alleged that the opposition leader is also creating obstacles for Galeru-Nagari project. YSRCP MLA Rajendra Reddy approached the court and got stay order to stop the works, he said. The Minister reiterated that the TDP government will complete the Polavaram project, despite the attempts by the opposition leader to obstruct the project.

He assured that the Polavaram project displaced people will get justice. He pointed out that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu already toured Velairpadu and Kukunuru mandals and assured government support to people of the mandals.

The Minister said that after meeting the needs of farmers of Godavari districts, the government would lift the water from PLIS if the water level exceeds 14 metres and divert it through Polavaram Right Main Canal to Krishna barrage, he added.

He said hundreds of drinking water tanks and canals in West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur districts can be filled up with the PLIS water.
