Visakhapatnam: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) found fault with design of the row houses at Rushikonda developed by the Vuda and advised the officials to rectify faults.

The PAC members on Wednesday visited the Vuda row houses and hill top IT Parks. Later, in a review meeting, the chairman of the committee B Rajendranath Reddy narrating his observations, said that the quality of construction was very poor, there was no proper parking lot.

The complaints lodged by the customers were found to be true during the field visit, he said. Reddy said due to this faulty design, only 33 houses out of 88 were sold so far. He directed the Vuda officials to rectify faults and launch a special drive to dispose of the remaining houses at the earliest.

When told that a Chennai-based architect was given the contract to design the houses at a cost of Rs 29 lakh, the chairman immediately asked the Vuda officials to hold him responsible for faulty design and initiate action against him.

He was surprised how blindly the design was accepted and told the officials to get tips from Karnataka Housing Board which has a reputation of constructing good houses in the country.

The committee questioned the chief city planner how building plan was approved for the construction of 33 storeyed residential complex and sought a comprehensive report on the building.

Later, talking to the reporters, the chairman said the committee would soon suggest the government to revise master plan for all the big cities in the State.
