Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday condemned the assault on two Dalits at Amalapuram in East Godavari district for skinning a dead cow. The Chief Minister took serious note of the incident, and directed the officials to take stern action against the accused.

He also appealed to the Dalit groups to refrain from making it an issue as the government had already taken cognisance of the same. The Chief Minister directed the officials to provide better health care to two Dalits who were injured in the assault.

He reviewed the situation in Amalapuram and the East Godavari district with DGP N Sambasiva Rao and Intelligence IG A B Venkateswara Rao at his camp office.

The Chief Minister said that the government would not tolerate any incident that causes social unrest. He appealed to the people to help the administration in restoring law and order in the district. He also directed the East Godavari district administration to extend Rs 1 lakh compensation to the two Dalits.

The DGP briefed the Chief Minister about the prevailing situation in Amalapuram and the steps taken by the district police. He told the Chief Minister that the district police have already arrested eight persons responsible for the incident.
