Vijayawada: Nine months have passed since Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu unveiled the pylon for construction of 10,000 houses at Jakkampudi village on the outskirts of Vijayawada but no progress has been made in the construction of the houses.

More than 40,000 persons who submitted applications for the allotment of houses in Vijayawada are eagerly waiting for construction of 10,000 houses at Jakkampudi village under the NTR Housing scheme.

The Revenue Department and Housing Board have collected applications five months ago.
Keeping in view the huge demand for houses in Vijayawada city, the Chief Minister had announced that 10,000 houses would be constructed at Jakkampudi as part of the NTR Housing Scheme and unveiled the pylon on April 14, 2016 on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar.

The officials have chosen Jakkampudi Colony and leveled the land for construction of houses. The houses would be built in collaboration with the Central government housing scheme.

After inauguration of the pylon, the Chief Minister said the State government would construct six lakh houses in the State including 10,000 houses in Vijayawada under the NTR Housing Scheme.

The district administration had made arrangements for construction of 10,000 houses in 165 acres land in Jakkampudi village.

Plans were afoot for construction of commercial complexes in Jakkampudi for the convenience of local people as well as promotion of commercial activity in the proposed village.

The Chief Minister had announced that a double-bed room flat would be constructed in 400 square yards at a cost of Rs 5.5 lakh and the State government would provide subsidy of Rs 1.8 lakh to SC, ST families and Rs 1.25 lakh subsidy to the backward classes beneficiaries under the NTR Housing Scheme.

CPM CRDA co-ordination committee convener ChBabu Rao alleged that the State government failed to start the construction of housing complex at Jakkampudi.

He said the Chief Minister had unveiled the pylon and later ignored the construction of houses for the poor.
