Ongole: Prakasam district Physiotherapists Association celebrated the World Physiotherapy Day here on Saturday.

Association president Dr Gurrala Raj Vimal presided over the celebrations while vice- president of Physiotherapy Association of India Dr B Rajesh was the chief guest.

As part of the celebrations, the association conducted a workshop for the physiotherapists in the district and Dr Rajesh explained about the importance of dry needling in physiotherapy while Dr Jagarlamudi Harikishore explained about the key issues related to the physiotherapy for athletics.

Speaking on the occasion, Raj Vimal said that the importance of physiotherapists is increasing with the modern medicine.

In the treatment of patients related to heart, nerves, bones, muscles and mentally retorted, physiotherapists are playing a key role, he added.

He said that about 70,000 physiotherapists are graduating every year from the 450 colleges in the country and but didn’t have a council to take care of them.

He thanked the state government for taking a decision to form the Physiotherapy Council in the state soon.

The Prakasam district Physiotherapists Association felicitated Best Physiotherapist Awardee Dr Thadithota Sudhakar and distributed participation certificates.

District association secretary Dr Shaik Muneer, treasurer Dr Sudheer, Dr Ephraim, Dr Nukathoti Sandhya, Dr Deepak and other members participated.
