Vijayawada: The potter families in Srikakulam district incurred heavy loss due to Titli cyclone, said Andhra Pradesh Kummari Salivahana Sangham president and former MLC Ilapuram Venkaiah on Wednesday.

The former MLC appealed to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to consider the potter families also while making damage assessment along with other communities. All the bricks and pots prepared by the potter families and clay was destroyed in the cyclone, hence he asked the officials to make assessment of these losses also along with the crops, cattle and trees that would be calculated.

Venkaiah said that the potters work throughout the summer season to collect clay for making pots and other clay utensils. The clay dumps were washed away in the cyclone causing heavy loss to them, he said. The former MLC further said that some of the families, who have been into brick-making activity, too lost their bricks due to heavy rains.

“The government officials are assessing the loss of cattle and trees due to cyclone. In the same way I request the officials to take the loss of clay, pots and bricks by potter families into consideration and pay compensation,” Ilapuram Venkaiah requested the government.
