Vijayawada: The district administration is gearing up for the distribution of 1.30 lakh house site pattas to the beneficiaries within a one-week. Earlier, the district administration has decided to conduct a big programme at Ibrahimpatnam to launch the house site pattas distribution programme inviting Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on November 10 or 11.

Due to unknown reasons, the programme has been postponed. The officials will announce the date and venue on conducting the mega event. On the other hand, the revenue officials and staff are busy in preparation of house site pattas in all the mandals of the district.

In Vijayawada city, 30,000 house site pattas will be distributed in all divisions. The value of land, which is distributed in the form of house site pattas is estimated at Rs 7,000 crore, according to District Collector B Lakshmikantham. The Collector has issued strict instructions to speed up preparation of house site pattas and conduct door-to-door verifications.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during his visit to Ajit Singh Nagar and Vambay colony about six months ago assured the residents that house site pattas would be distributed at any cost. As per the assurance, he directed the officials to prepare the list of house site pattas for the distribution in the city.

Interestingly, the residents of Ajit Singh Nagar and nearby areas heaved a sigh of relief on Thursday as the government had lifted the ban on the registration of properties in the area.

More than 30,000 people living in the area had purchased the house sites and constructed houses during the last 50 years. But, the government had stopped registration of houses and house site pattas for the past eight months as the revenue department had declared that the houses were built in prohibited areas and the land belongs to the government.

Locals had been agitating for the last eight months demanding the government to lift ban on the registrations. The Left parties and the YSRCP staged protests several times in Ajit Singh Nagar demanding the government to lift the ban.

Finally, Collector B Lakshmikantham issued orders lifting the ban on registration of properties. He attended Grama Darsini programme in Ajit Singh Nagar on Thursday and announced that the ban had been lifted from Thursday onwards and registrations can be restored. CPM State secretariat member Chigurupati Baburao hailed the decision of the government.

He submitted the copies of the orders to the Sub-registrar in Gandhi Nagar and informed that the registrations can be restored. Left parties and Jana Sena celebrated the event by distributing sweets in the area and congratulating the locals.
