Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu decries use of derogatory language in politics
VicePresident M Venkaiah Naidu expressed concern over the highly objectionable language being used and derogatory comments being made by political leaders to criticise their political opponents
Vijayawada: Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu expressed concern over the highly objectionable language being used and derogatory comments being made by political leaders to criticise their political opponents.
He said political leaders should think that their opponents are only political rivals but not enemies. He said democracy will be ridiculed if the political leaders go on criticising each other using objectionable language and make derogatory comments. Venkaiah said this kind of political tendency is not confined to the two Telugu States but prevailed all over the country.
The Vice-President interacted with the media at the Swarna Bharathi Trust at Atkur near Gannavaram on Wednesday and shared his personal feelings and opinions frankly with the media on the present political scenario in the State and country.
Referring to criminal cases being faced by the MLAs, MPs and other leaders in the country, he said there should be judicial mechanism for the speedy trial of 4,127 cases pending in the country. Stating that cases with criminal nature should be completed in one year, he felt it will enhance the confidence of people in the democracy and leaders in the country.
Commenting on defections, Venkaiah Naidu said the leaders, who are defecting to other parties must quit the posts. He said the Speaker should take quick action against the defectors if they violate the basic rules.
He said any leader can change the party but he or she should resign to the post before changing the party. Regretting the growing influence of money, religion and caste in the country, he felt this tendency is not good for the democracy. He suggested to the voters to choose capable candidates.
Venkaiah Naidu said there should be consensus among all the countries to hand over the economic offenders to the respective countries. There was a threat to economic sector with the increasing economic offences and criminals, he added.
Commenting on the promises being made by the political leaders during election campaign, he said that the political parties should not resort to false promises. He said the promises should match with economic condition of the particular State or region. Venkaiah said the governments should focus on inclusive growth.
