Kurnool: Several police personnel from the district have participated in national and international sports events and won medals in taekwondo, handball and rowing, said District Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Fakkeerappa Kaginelli after inaugurating three-day district police sports and games meet at Police Parade Grounds here on Friday.

On the occasion, the SP said the sports meet to police personnel is being organised on the directions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Director General of Police (DGP) RP Thakur. Police personnel from six sub-divisions besides Armed Reserved, Home Guard and ministerial staff are taking part in the sports meet. The reason behind organising the sports event for police personnel is to keep them fit and healthy, the SP stated. He further stated sports play a vital role to overcome physical and mental stress besides keeping the police personnel physically fit.

Later, Fakkeerappa launched the 800-metre race after firing a round in the air. He even launched a volleyball match by cutting the ribbon. The SP felicitated the district-level athletes, who represented the national and international games. ASP I Venkatesh, DSPs, Police Association President Damodar Reddy and other police officials present.
